I must confess mixing and matching colors is in itself an exception to most general rules of fashion. It was a rebellion against rules and it turned out to be a pleasant thing almost every body wants to try at one point of their life especially if you are artistic and aesthetic like me.
It is therefore only sane that as a rebellious counter attack, pattern mixtures must not be plagued with many rules. You are meant to do it your own way and find what pleases your soul. However, there is one way I know that you can do it well and better. Just one way!
There is only one rule to rocking mixing and matching patterns in my opinion which is, there must be a color harmony.
At other time I refer to it as a common undertone. There must be at least one constant color in both patterned outfit. There is no better way to explain this. If on a pattern outfit there is blue, red and green on the second one there has to be either a red touch, green touch or a blue one.
The second thing to note is that it is best if the colors are the same shade or similar to each other. Pairing a maroon with pepper red might not be advisable. So let the shades be very similar like blush pink and baby pink or sky blue and powder blue so you can get your desired effect.
